As local Conservatives gathered to meet their new parliamentary candidate, Marcus Fysh, at the inaugural meeting of the recently launched Chard & District branch of the local Conservative Association, it was agreed that 50% of funds raised would be donated to the Philippines Disaster initiative, spear headed locally by the Rotary Club of Ilminster.
At the coffee morning, held at the home of local supporters Mary and Russ Wardell, the group were also joined by Ilminster County Councillor Linda Vijeh, who maintains she will go anywhere to sample one of Mary's delicious moreish meringues! The group raised an impressive £117 in just two hours.
Said Marcus, "It is only right that whilst wanting to support the local Conservative campaign that we all consider what is happening elsewhere in the world, and do whatever we can to alleviate the stress caused but such a devastating disaster."
