Taunton Deane MP Rebecca Pow invites constituent Revd. Sam Griffiths to the Community Champions event at No 10 Downing Street
A reception was held at Number 10 Downing Street on Wednesday to celebrate the work of Community Champions in constituencies across the UK.
Community champions are members of the community who make our constituencies a better place to live and work. The event was an opportunity to celebrate and thank these champions, each nominated by their own MP for their enormous contribution to society. The Prime Minister met the champions and gave an impassioned speech to personally thank everyone.
Taunton Deane MP Rebecca Pow nominated Revd. Sam Griffiths from the Wellington Baptist Church in recognition of the work of the Wellington Warm Refuge, set up in response to the cost of living crisis. Starting in October 2022, once a week on a Thursday, the Baptist church hall is open from 09:30am until 7pm for anyone to come along to this warm place, meet and interact with others, and enjoy a hot lunch or dinner provided by a rota of volunteers.
Local MP Rebecca Pow said:
“I was delighted to have the opportunity to invite Revd. Sam Griffiths to the Community Champions event at No 10 Downing Street in recognition of all the hard work he and the army of volunteers running the Wellington Warm Refuge are doing in the heart of Wellington, providing a hot meal and a relaxed place to meet with others. When I visited recently, I could see what a valuable service this is providing for many people who are finding times challenging and I wanted this to be recognised and to say a big thankyou to everyone involved.”
