Following up on previous concerns regarding the closure of NatWest bank in August; the Shepton Mallet Post Office Action Group have been liaising with stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition to new services.
In previous meetings the Group has met with McColls and Natwest.
Today was a scheduled meeting to reflect on a number of service improvements promised as a result of Natwest Banking facilities being transferred to the Post Office in Town Street.
Cllr Judy Bartlett spoke about the range of services available in Town Street, she said "I can see a range of basic banking services will be available which is very welcome. However, it's important to remember that not everyone wants or can use other services not on offer online or via the telephone".
Moving onto access, Cllr Marsh said "there are some concerns about disabled access to the shop. I'm pleased McColls recognise this and I hope they find a suitable solution as quick as possible. They have offered to keep both doors open throughout the trading day to make access as easy as possible for all users. Hopefully this will work over the winter as well as summer".
Speaking in regards to complaints generated from customers, Cllr John Parham said "I haven't received the quantity of complaints since improvements have been made. It's good to see a new team has been brought in and I hope this can only improve the service experience for the Customer".
Concluding, Cllr Simon Davies continued "All we want as a town is a Post Office can can handle its current load, be flexible enough to take in the new banking customers and to absorb new businesses from a growing town with new micro business starting all the time. I'm pleased to see our initial comments have been taken seriously and the service improved."
The Post Office Action Group have arranged for a further meeting with McColls towards the end of this year to assess the impact of the Natwest closure and the latest re-organisation in the store.
Natwest were invited to attend the meeting, but no one was available to attend.
