Tom King - now Lord King, Bridgwater’s Conservative MP for over thirty years - came back to the town last week to see how his successors are coping. He was impressed:
“The good bits of this vibrant town have got even better! There’s a real sense of optimism from people I’ve been meeting. Big business obviously believes in Bridgwater and they are putting their money in. This place is on the up again.”
The veteran politician, who served in Margaret Thatcher’s government as Northern Ireland Secretary and Defence Secretary, met candidates for Sedgemoor District Council’s elections and was shown what’s new by his successor at the House of Commons Ian Liddell-Grainger, the Conservative Parliamentary candidate.
Ian said: “I’m delighted he came. This isn’t about party politics. When someone like Tom takes the trouble to visit and see the transformations taking place it proves that people here in Bridgwater are getting things right.
