Alongside winning all five parliamentary constituencies in Somerset, Conservatives gained seats across the county in the local elections on Thursday 7 May.
The Conservatives consolidated its majorities on Mendip District Council, Sedgemoor District Council and West Somerset District Council, took outright control of Taunton Deane Borough Council and won enough seats to place South Somerset District Council into no overall control.
Mendip
Conservative - 32 (+1)

In Mendip, the Conservatives gained a seat to increase the size of their majority by one whilst Labour lost their only seat on the authority. The Green Party picked up three seats with UKIP lost three. Both the Liberal Democrats and Indepent(s) saw no change in their number of seats.
Sedgemoor

Labour - 10 (-3)
Liberal Democrat - 1 (-1)

In Sedgemoor the Conservatives gained four seats to increase the size of their majority by four whilst Labour lost three seats. The Green Party failed to win a single seat while UKIP picked up two. The Liberal Democrats lost a seat, leaving them with only a single seat left on the authority. Both Independents also lost their seats.
South Somerset

Labour - 0 (No change)
Liberal Democrat - 29 (-2)
UKIP - 0 (No change)
In South Somerset the Conservatives gained three seats, with the Liberal Democrats losing two. As a result the authority fell into no overall control. The Independents lost two seats, whilst all other parties failed to win a seat.
Taunton Deane

Labour - 2 (-1)
Liberal Democrat - 14 (-9)
UKIP - 1 (+1)
In Taunton Deane the Conservatives gained eight seats, with the Liberal Democrats losing nine. Taunton Deane moved from no overall control to Conservative control. Both UKIP and Independents gained a single seat with Labour losing a single seat. The Greens failed to win any.
West Somerset

In West Somerset the Conservatives gained two seats consolidating their majority. The Independents lost four seats, with Labour losing one. UKIP gained three seats. Both the Greens and Liberal Democrats failed to win a single seat.
In all, the Conservatives won eighteen local government seats in Somerset and now have over 150 District Councillors across the county, over 60% of the total. The Conservatives also won the Taunton North County Council by-election, taking the division from the Liberal Democrats, strengthening their control of Somerset County Council.
