Ken Maddock, the Police and Crime Commissioner Candidate for Avon and Somerset, attended the Somerset School Games 2012 at Millfield School, Street on Friday.
The Games are an opportunity for all schools in Somerset to come together and show young people that there is an opportunity for everyone in sport, regardless of their ability, as well as taking part in a competitive event.
Ken, who nationally was looking at ways for councils to promote sport as a member of the LGA, is keen to get more young people active in sport and to create opportunities for them to reduce anti-social behaviour.
Ken commented, “2012 is a big year for sport with the London Olympics, the Euros and Andy Murray doing well in Wimbledon. This is an opportunity we cannot miss to get our young people interested and involved in sport.”
“There are sporting opportunities for our young people across Avon and Somerset that they can go to instead of hanging around being bored. The problem is they just don’t know about them.
“As the Police Commissioner I would work with local councils and charities to promote and expand these opportunities.”
