David Warburton, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Somerton & Frome, has written to twenty schools across the Somerton and Frome constituency to pledge his support for the campaign to overhaul the system for rural schools funding.
A former teacher in inner-city secondary schools, David explains, “The unbalanced and unfair funding formula has affected our schools in Somerset for far too long. We need action on this immediately following the election.
“I’ve been in touch with the Education Secretary Nicky Morgan and very much look forward to pressing for a fair and long lasting solution for Somerset.”
David continued, “In Somerset, some schools receive more than £2 million less funding than similar schools in London. That’s enough for more than 40 teachers. It means schools in Somerset can suffer from larger class sizes, fewer support staff and inferior facilities compared to schools elsewhere.
“Four years ago, the current Government launched a review into school funding which published its results last year. The review recommended an overhaul of the whole system, which the Conservatives are committed to carrying out. I’m determined that this is addressed as soon as possible after the election and I will push it forward to help our local schools.”
