Conservative-controlled Sedgemoor District Council has helped to produce an inspiring new publication ‘Somerset & Exmoor – Great Escapes’ which shows the range of sustainable rural tourism opportunities on offer in the area. The publication, produced by Greentraveller, is being distributed with January’s issue of BBC Countryfile Magazine and is supported with web content and a video.
The guide includes thirty different ideas to encourage breaks in Somerset and Exmoor, from staying in unique accommodation and observing starling murmurations on the Somerset Levels to indulging in gourmet local food, walking in a poet's footsteps and experiencing Exmoor’s International Dark Sky Reserve.
Exmoor National Park Authority, Somerset County Council, Sedgemoor District Council and West Somerset Council secured funding to commission the sustainable tourism marketing agency Greentraveller to produce the publication, drawing on its team of professional travel writers and designers to showcase the whole of Exmoor and Somerset as a world class, innovative visitor destination to a national audience.
Vicky Banham, Tourism officer at Sedgemoor said “'We are delighted to be able to help showcase the amazing countryside where we are lucky enough to live and work so that more people can find out what it has to offer and the great local businesses ready to welcome them.'
The partners identified over 100 local businesses that offer products and services that support these iconic experiences; including accommodation providers, guided tours, food and drink providers, literary links and transport services.
