The popular Wellington Sports Centre is getting a welcome facelift to the tune of £200,000.
Work to modernise the entrance, introduce state of the art self check-in facilities, a health spa, contemporary decoration and new flooring for the sports hall is being funded by Section 106 funding unlocked via the Cades Farm development in the town with top-up funding from Tone Leisure and Taunton Deane Council.
Prospective MP, Rebecca Pow was given a special tour as work began:
"The sports centre is a huge asset to the town and these developments will ensure it continues to remain a great facility into the future. I’ve used the centre myself taking part in a triathlon run from here - a mini one I might add! - and I know how valuable the facility is and if it can be brought bang up to date it will not only benefit all those currently using it but hopefully entice new people to come here and engage in sport."
Manager Gavin Brooks, who showed Rebecca and Councillor Vivienne Stock-Williams around, is excited about the new developments:
"We have 11,000 members at the centre making 22,000 visits per month so it is a much used local facility. The refurbishment will give the centre a new lease of life and I look forward to welcoming our current members but also new members."
