SAFETY of pedestrians near the primary school could be improved by a 'virtual' footpath planned for a road in the village later this year.
Proposals came about after concerns that for around 100 metres on North End, children, the elderly and mothers with prams from the nearby school were stepping into the road because there was no pavement.
A virtual footpath would involve a stretch of coloured paint along the road to give walkers an area to follow in contrast to a regular raised kerb pavement. The stretch of road is between the junction of West View and the roundabout and county councillor and governor of Creech St Michael Primary School David Fothergill said there were hopes of a permanent footpath but that restrictions in the road would not allow it.
He said: "After a lot of consideration by County Highways a proposal for a virtual footpath has been drawn up due to restrictions in road width, sight lines, land ownership and traffic management.
"This scheme would also be supported by the appropriate signage and road markings."
The drawings for the path are now at the preliminary stage and Cllr Fothergill is looking to hear residents' views on the proposal. Anyone interested in having their input considered or wishing to inspect the drawings can contact him on 07765-256256or email [email protected]
