Still time to have your say on SCC's on services for people with Learning Disabilities

There’s less than a month to go for the public to get involved in the County Council’s consultation on services for people with Learning Disabilities.

The closing date for comment is 9 December so there is still plenty of time to have your say.

Currently, the Council’s in-house Learning Disabilities Provider Service (LDPS) provides services for just under half of adults with learning disabilities. The rest are supported by services delivered by other organisations.

The Council is considering whether it should increase the amount of its support for people with Learning Disabilities provided by other organisations.

The consultation is seeking people’s views on three possible options:

  1. Leave things are they are. The LDPS would continue to be owned and run by Somerset County Council
  2. Somerset County Council will create a new organisation that is separate from the Council, for example a publicly-owned trust or a not-for-profit organisation, and transfer all or some of the LDPS to that new organisation
  3. Ask other care providers to bid to take on all or some of the LDPS.

Service users, carers and families have been directly approached to take part in the consultation. The wider public can complete a survey by visiting the website.

Did you know?

Somerset County Council is currently inviting residents to have their say on a number of services.

Consulting with the public allows the Council to gauge public opinion on any proposals to change the way a particular service operates. The results are then considered as part of the decision making process.

As well as the Learning Disabilities Services, there are other public consultations on Hate Crime in Somerset, Subsidised Bus Services, Sheltered Housing and the Registration Service.

To access the current consultations and have your say go to the website and complete the on-line questionnaires.

Members of the public without access to the internet can call Somerset Direct on 0845 345 9166.
