In the last few months Marcus Fysh MP has been liaising closely with Somerset County Council, residents, schools and District Councillors regarding concerns relating to road safety issues. There have been two main issues highlighted: speed limits on roads outside schools, and speed limits/pedestrian crossings which have been of concern to residents for some time.
Marcus said “I am really pleased to have played a part in two such schemes now being confirmed as Small Improvement Schemes (SIS) by Somerset County Council – these are Stourton Way, and Oaklands Primary School, both in Yeovil. Stourton Way was originally highlighted to me by Cllr Sarah Lindsay who started a petition to raise awareness getting over 600 signatures last year. Since then, by co-ordinating between residents and the Council, it has now been confirmed that the safety of the pedestrian crossing is going to be reviewed as part of an SIS. Oaklands Primary school’s concerns were raised to me during my school visit last year, and it is great news to understand that a feasibility report has been concluded with a plan to reduce the speed limit to 20mph around the school”.
