Ken Maddock, Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner candidate for the Conservative party visited Bath on Saturday 7 July to introduce himself to supporters and to answer their questions about his potential new role.
Ken, who recently stood down as leader of Somerset County Council in order to be a candidate in the forthcoming election explained his wish to represent all the residents of the Avon and Somerset area if he is successful at the election on November 15 2012. He said:
“I regard this as a great opportunity to take the improvements made by the police in recent years in tackling crime and community safety to the next level, and to do so in a more transparent and accountable way. I believe I bring experience, support and a willingness to listen, which this will need. But most of all, I want to do this because I know what a big difference it can make to the everyday lives of so many people.”
"Avon and Somerset covers 1.6million people and is one of the largest forces in the country. In the next five months I will be devoting my time to visiting as many communities and listening to as many people as possible about their views, concerns and priorities for improving policing locally.
“I will be campaigning in every one of the 16 constituencies that make up Avon and Somerset and we will be working hard to ensure that we win this election, so we can get on with the job of improving policing and reducing crime locally.”
Ken was chosen after facing three challenging question and answer meetings with around 300 Party members, held at Bath & West Showground (Shepton Mallet), Sedgemoor Auction Centre (North Petherton) and BAWA Club (Filton).
Ken’s previous experience includes a successful career in the clothing and footwear industry, followed by public service as both the Leader of Mendip District Council and Somerset County Council.
