Highbridge MP James Heappey proudly opened King Alfred School’s Sixth Form extension this week following a huge increase in demand for students to attend from in and around the Burnham and Highbridge area.

Back in 2018, the school joined the Priory Learning Trust and has gone from strength to strength ever since.

However, the Sixth Form was close to be taken away due to low numbers, but this is something Mr Heappey vehemently opposed.

He said: “The easy bit was me opposing the closure of the Sixth Form, the hard work which has gone into increasing both the numbers and standard of education is credit to the school, the trust and all the leadership team.

“The fact this is a desirable place to learn is a vote of confidence in the town and allows students in the Burnham and Highbridge area to be given a choice on how they continue their studies.

“The building looks fantastic and it is no doubt a great learning environment for all. I want to say congratulations to  Dan, Nathan and Neville for all their hard work over the years to make this possible.”
