Have your say on who could be your next MP

Local people from across the Yeovil constituency are being asked to help choose the new Conservative challenger for the General Election in 2015. The selection process, called an Open Primary, is a new and exciting opportunity for local residents to have their say on who they want to stand up for them locally.

On Tuesday 30th July anyone, who is registered to vote for the MP in the Yeovil constituency, can attend the Open Primary to quiz the candidates on local and national issues and then vote on who the candidate should be.

The doors will open at 6pm and the meeting will start at 7pm. To attend you will need to pre-register either by emailing your name, address and contact details to [email protected] or by calling 01935 423934. Registration will close at noon on Monday 29th July. There is a maximum safe capacity at the venue and once full, unfortunately registration will close. The central Yeovil venue will be announced as people register to attend.

Paul Bradly, the Chairman of Yeovil Conservatives, said “This is a very exciting time for the Yeovil Conservatives. In May we had the best County Council election result in over 35 years, building on our success at the 2011 South Somerset elections.

“Our local councillors and candidates are working hard to stand up for local residents and we want local people from Chard and Crewkerne to Ilminster and South Petherton to choose our local candidate that will fight on behalf of local residents across the Yeovil constituency.

“We want to hear from everyone and to let everyone have their say. It doesn’t matter if you vote Conservative, vote for someone else or do not vote at all. We care about our local communities and want to see them thrive.

“Please do come along on the 30th July and make sure your voice is heard.”

You must register in advance to attend this meeting - you cannot turn up on the evening.

What's a Primary?

Primaries are a relative new approach to candidate selection and are designed to engage the wider electorate and not just party members. The Conservative Party nationally gave Yeovil Conservatives the choice of either a primary or confining the selection process just to members. At a meeting of the Yeovil Conservative Executive Committee members voted overwhelmingly to open the process up with a primary.

How to register to attend

Everyone on the electoral register in the Yeovil constituency is entitled to attend - simply email us or call 01935 423934 to register your details.
