West Somerset’s Tourist Information Centres are vital in working with both tourism providers and the thousands of visitors who enjoy the area each year.
In the past two years the Conservative-controlled Council has provided £50,000 to support the information centres in Minehead, Porlock and Watchet and is providing a further £20,000 this year to support the valuable work.
The information centres rely heavily on willing volunteers and the Council is keen to acknowledge their support – and the work of paid staff – as they begin to prepare for next year’s holiday season.
Cllr Karen Mills, Lead Member for economic growth and regeneration, said: “The value of our information centres cannot be underestimated. We have fantastic teams in Minehead, Porlock and Watchet and I would like to take this chance to thank them.
“They are the eyes and ears of tourism intelligence in West Somerset – a trusted front line service that supports visitors, business and our local residents as well.”
The funding awarded is part of the tourism contribution provided by EDF Energy to West Somerset Council as part of the Section 106 agreement for Site Preparation works approved by the Council.
All three information centres in West Somerset work closely together and with the council and are currently putting together a communications and marketing package to ensure that this beautiful area continues to attract large numbers of tourists.
