Local man David Warburton has been selected to contest the Somerton and Frome Constituency at the General Election in 2015 for the Conservatives.
David, who was chosen by hundreds of local members, lives in Mendip with his wife Harriet and their two children and taught at an inner-city secondary school before going into a successful business career.
Commenting on his selection David said, “I am thrilled and honoured to have the opportunity to stand up for the residents of Somerton and Frome.
“As a husband and father I understand the demands and pressures that families are going through. Having been a cleaner, a van driver, a shop keeper before going into teaching and setting up my own business, I know what it is to have struggled. These are experiences that I am keen to take to Parliament to benefit local people.
“I have known this part of Somerset for most of my life and I will campaign on the local issues that matter to people, especially the rural environment we are lucky enough to share.
“Somerton and Frome is a very large area with many different towns and villages, each with its own delights, its own character and its own needs. I am enormously keen to support and represent all the people of the area and look forward to listening to, learning about and responding to their concerns.”
David will use his experiences to help campaign for Somerton and Frome but wants to understand the changing needs of everyone in the area. He added, “I have pledged to spend one day every fortnight volunteering in a local school, charity or other organisation. If anyone would like me to spend a day in their school, charity or organisation, it would be great if they could please get in touch. I am committed to getting involved with as many areas of local life as possible and to getting to know people across our stunning part of Somerset.”
