James Heappey, prospective Conservative MP for the Wells constituency, has welcomed new figures showing that the Conservatives’ Help to Buy scheme is helping more and more families to achieve their dream of buying their own home.
108 people families have so far been able to access an affordable mortgage and get on the housing ladder in the Wells constituency. This figure does not include those who have been assisted under the New Buy Scheme.
Across the UK, Help to Buy has helped over 73,000 families buy their own home – with over 80 per cent of sales going to first-time buyers. This comes in the same week as the Halifax revealed that over 325,000 first-time buyers brought their own home in 2014, up 22 per cent on 2013 and the highest number since 2007.
James Heappey said:
“Houses are expensive in our part of Somerset meaning that many young families are forced to leave the area rather than making their lives here.
“That’s why the Conservatives, as part of our long-term economic plan, launched Help to Buy. So far, 108 families in our part of Somerset have been able to achieve their dream of home ownership and enjoy the security and peace of mind that comes with that.
“My plan to secure a better future for our community focusses on the importance of bringing more jobs and investment to the area, supporting our rural economy and making sure that houses in our area are affordable so that young families can stay here. Help to Buy is an important part of that plan.”
