David Warburton, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Somerton and Frome, has welcomed new figures showing that 250 fewer people are relying on Jobseeker’s Allowance in the Somerton and Frome constituency compared to just one year ago.
Additionally, since 2010 the number of people in work in the South West is up by 139,000 and the number of people on unemployment benefits is down by 489 – a 46% drop.
The Somerton and Frome constituency – an area of some 900 square miles stretching from Beckington and Rode down to Wincanton and just beyond Langport – has recently seen a huge number of jobs created and businesses flourish and grow.
“These figures are hugely exciting and show that business in Somerset is really thriving,” commented David Warburton. “Since being selected as the prospective parliamentary candidate for Somerton & Frome in February last year, I have visited a great many businesses, both large and small. Meeting those companies first-hand and seeing these figures confirms that Somerset is indeed flourishing and becoming one of the most prosperous and vibrant areas of the south west.”
“Many businesses are looking to Somerset to grow their companies, and we have hugely varied industries here in the constituency. Everything from the newly-launched Hauser and Wirth art complex in Bruton, to rigid inflatable boat manufacturers Henshaw Inflatables in Wincanton, the ‘Warhammer’ gaming figure designers Spartan Games at Evercreech Junction, and award-winning food producers such as Wyke Farms.
“It’s exciting to see these companies expanding here in the Somerton & Frome constituency, and no doubt as the economy continues to grow we will see many new industries emerging and establishing in Somerset.”
