David Warburton, MP for Somerton and Frome, joined fundraising members of the Long Sutton Golf Club last week at their annual St Margaret’s Hospice Charity Golf Day.
Taking place on the first Friday of July each year, the Long Sutton Golf Club St. Margaret’s Charity Golf Day has been running for over 15 years and has raised more than £250,000 for the charity.
St Margaret’s Hospice is the largest local charity, caring for those with life-limiting illness throughout Somerset, Dorset and Devon. In addition to two hospice facilities in Taunton and Yeovil, St Margaret’s also cares for those remaining at home, supporting patients and bringing relief from pain and other symptoms. The charity needs to raise in excess of £6.5m each year to operate, and only 19% of their funding comes from the NHS.
David commented, “St Margaret’s Hospice Charity Golf Day at Long Sutton Golf Club is an extremely popular and hugely successful fundraising event, and I was delighted to offer an auction prize and join in again this year. Last year the event raised a breathtaking £25,000 – truly an astonishing achievement.”
He continued, “St Margaret’s Hospice provides a vital service to people throughout the South West, and the members of Long Sutton Golf Club are to be warmly commended once again for their impressive fundraising efforts for this vital charity.”
