David Warburton, the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Somerton and Frome today welcomed the Rt. Hon. Michael Gove MP, Secretary of State for Education to Sexey’s School in Bruton. Michael Gove and David Warburton met Headmaster Irfan Latif and members of the school’s governing board to discuss the outstanding success of the school.
Michael Gove then subjected himself to searching question and answer session with a group of the school’s students, from years 7 through to 13. The students probed the Secretary of State on a wide range of topics, from the behaviour of MPs (and his own behaviour) at Prime Ministers Questions to the funding of rural schools, government help for flood victims and whether Scotland should remain part of the UK. They also quizzed Michael Gove about his desire to become Prime Minister himself, an ambition which the Minster denied.
”It was a pleasure to welcome the Secretary of State of Education to such a shining example of educational excellence,” commented David Warburton. “Sexey’s School continues to go from strength to strength and has achieved national as well as international recognition for the quality and success of its teaching.”
“The students seemed to delight in questioning Mr Gove on a variety of subjects and he was as impressed as I with their enthusiasm and insightful engagement. I’m certain the Secretary of State will return in the very near future.”
