David Warburton, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Somerton and Frome, today cut the ribbon at the official reopening ceremony of the Wincanton post office, which has been closed for refurbishment during most of February.
Featuring a contemporary, open-plan design and a full range of post office services, the newly-renovated branch will also offer customers longer opening hours. The post office will now be open from 9.00am to 5.30pm Monday to Saturday, with no lunchtime closure.
The modernisation of the Wincanton post office is part of a three-year investment programme to upgrade post offices nationwide. About half of the UK post office network will be converted to new-style premises and upgraded as part of the government’s commitment to maintaining these vital services within towns and villages.
David Warburton commented, “I’m delighted and honoured to be asked to lead the grand reopening of the Wincanton post office. As well as being a wonderful building and shop, and providing essential services for the town, the post office is the vital heart and hub of Wincanton. It’s a hugely important part of life here, and I’m so pleased that it is set now for many decades into the future.”
