David Warburton, the Conservative prospective parliamentary candidate for Frome, today welcomed Cllr John Osman, leader of Somerset County Council to Frome on an official visit to Frome Community College.
The visit was arranged by David to highlight both the school’s accomplishments since the appointment of Gavin Ball as the new Principal of the school a year ago, and also to ensure that the school gets full and proper attention from Somerset County Council.
Under Gavin Ball’s leadership, Frome Community College celebrated its best-ever A-Level and GCSE results this year and achieved a greatly improved Ofsted rating.
David introduced Cllr Osman to Gavin Ball, and they met with Graham Lock, Chair of Governors, and Jane Hutton, School Business Manager. They also toured the school and heard about the school’s innovative community initiatives
David Warburton commented, “Frome College has achieved an astonishing amount in the year since Gavin took the helm, and – as an ex-teacher myself - I felt it was important to highlight the school’s successes and wonderful entrepreneurial spirit.
“I'm extremely concerned that Frome often misses out by being at the edge of Somerset and far from County Hall. In order to correct that balance, there has to be active and constant dialogue - and action.”
He continued, “Bringing the leader of Somerset County Council to Frome to visit the school in person is an important part of making sure Frome Community College receives the recognition it deserves at County Council level. John Osman appreciated the college’s achievements, and we discussed the school’s urgent requirement for dedicated leisure facilities and funding assistance. I’m very keen to push that case with the County Council and ensure that Frome College continues to flourish.”
