Those least well off, including pensioners, will again receive rebates on their bills under the scheme which was introduced last year in line with Government rules.
The Council receives Government funding to help towards the cost of council services including tax rebates but this will be reduced in the coming year therefore the Council needs to take difficult decisions to balance its budget.
As a result West Somerset Council will cease its funding to parish councils which will, in turn, either consider increasing their local levy or making reductions in their budgets.
Parish councils have, in the past, received funding towards the shortfall resulting from Council tax rebates. But with Government cuts and a predicted budget gap of £316,000, West Somerset can no longer afford to offer the help.
The Council has written to all parish and town councils advising them that the funding is likely to be withdrawn and offering advice and support.
If parishes and town councils decide to increase their Council Tax precept to make up the shortfall, the amount to the tax payer will vary depending on where they live and which tax band they are in.
