Thanks to the Conservatives on Somerset County Council, councillors will be able to spend £10,000 in their local area to improve health and wellbeing in our communities.
The grants, which were approved by the Conservative Cabinet on Wednesday 4th July, can for example be put towards buying sports equipment for youth and community groups or organising cooking lessons to teach people how to cook healthy meals.
Cllr David Huxtable, who proposed the scheme, commented “We all know that local councillors know what needs to be done to improve our local communities, these grants will allow them to respond quickly to those needs. The money can be used for a range of ideas and I would encourage any community group to get in touch with their local councillor to see how they can help.
“These grants are only possible thanks to the hard work of the Conservatives on Somerset County Council, who have kept a tight grip on expenditure and are able to release the money, on a one-off basis, due to under spending in a number of areas in the last year.”
